The Waterfront is the setting for a high-stakes meeting in its underground parking area, where the hard disk and Pakamile become the terms of a confrontation involving Thobela Mpayipheli, Janina Mentz, and Tiger Mazibuko. The meeting is arranged for eleven o’clock in the morning at the Waterfront’s underground parking lot, where Pakamile is to be brought. The ultimatum attached to the appointment threatens that, if the child is not there, a copy of the hard disk will be sent to every newspaper in the country. The location is therefore established not as a neutral destination but as the site where the child’s return and the possible exposure of the data are made conditional on one another.

The Parking-Garage Confrontation

As the deadline approaches, Thobela waits beside his motorbike while Zatopek van Heerden remains in his car with a silenced machine pistol taken from a CIA agent. Allison Healy has chosen not to come. A minute before eleven, Tiger Mazibuko approaches from the shopping-centre entrance, identifies Thobela as his target, and threatens to kill him in the future, once the data no longer matters. Thobela asks where Pakamile is; the hard disk’s importance is already restraining an otherwise immediate conflict.

The Child and the Hard Disk

Janina Mentz’s voice comes from among the cars, asking for the location of the hard disk. Thobela says it is safe and again demands to know where Pakamile is. Mentz reveals that the child is in a car behind them and insists that Thobela give the disk to Tiger if he wants the child. Thobela rejects her framing of the available choices and makes the exchange conditional: the child for the hard disk. The Waterfront parking area thus concentrates the scene’s central contest over leverage, with Pakamile’s whereabouts and the disk’s safety both still at stake in the exchange presented here.
